Coach Izzo Criticizes NCAA Over G League Player Eligibility
Michigan State coach Tom Izzo strongly criticized the NCAA on Tuesday after former G League player London Johnson committed to Louisville. Johnson, a former four-star recruit who averaged 7.6 points over three G League seasons, became eligible to play Division I basketball despite previous NCAA rules barring professionals from college competition. Izzo called the decision "ridiculous" and "embarrassing," expressing concern that high school recruits could lose their spots to older, more experienced G League players. He stated: "I don't respect my profession, and I don't respect whoever is doing that. Whoever made those decisions because they're afraid that a lawyer is going to sue them."
Another G League player, Thierry Darlan, recently committed to Santa Clara. Izzo warned of "unintended consequences" and urged the NCAA to "regroup" on eligibility decisions.
